Frequently Asked Questions
What is dog daycare? Daycare is an alternative to leaving your dog at home alone while you are at work or play. We offer supervised and controlled playgroups for your dog’s safety and enjoyment. There is never a dull moment for our guests.
What are your vaccination requirements? DHLPP, Rabies, Distemper & Bordetella. Bordetella must be given within 6 months. All vaccinations must be given up to 10 days prior to coming. Puppies older than 7 months must be spayed or neutered.
Is it bad for my dog to run on concrete? Concrete can impair a dog's ability to dissipate heat through the paws, also running on concrete can wear down your dog's paw pads and increase the risk of nail-bed injuries.
Why does my dog need a temperament evaluation? We temperament test all our dogs for daycare and overnights to help ensure everyone’s safety. Since your dog will be interacting with other dogs while at the Canine Inn we want to provide the safest and most relaxed environment possible.
Do you have separate areas for large dogs and small dogs? Yes, all dogs are divided by size, temperament and activity level.
How large is your indoor area? We have 7500 sq. ft. of area for the dogs, with 3 play areas. In addition, we have a special room for puppies only.
How long do the dogs play in their groups? Our dogs play in the morning until about 11:30 am then settle down for a nap. See our “Daily Activities”. Playgroups start up again about 1:30pm.
Do you walk the dogs? We will need your permission to take your dog for a walk or jog. Extra walks can be purchased separately.
Do you provide dog treats? Treats are given unless requested otherwise by the owner.
How many times do you feed the dogs? We like to keep our dog’s feeding schedule as close to their normal feeding as possible.
Have you ever turned down any dogs before? If so, for what reasons? Yes. Dogs that show any aggression towards people or other dogs will not be allowed to attend the Canine Inn. This is for everyone’s safety. We have excellent trainers on staff to help with any training needs.
Should I feed my dog prior to coming to daycare? It is best to eat 1.5 hours prior to coming to daycare to prevent Bloat which can be caused by playing too quickly after eating. Just to be safe, if you have eaten in less than 1.5 hours you'll be placed in a suite until the proper amount of time has passed.
What should my dog wear to daycare? Our dogs are required to wear a quick release collar with your name and phone number on an ID tag.
Where is the nearest vet? Do you have a vet on call? What do you do in case of a medical emergency? We will contact the veterinarian you have on file with us. After hours emergencies will be taken to Oakland Veterinary Referral Services or Michigan Veterinary Specialists.

What kind of overnight gear do I bring for my dog? Bring your dog’s food, as it is best to stay on the diet you are accustomed to. We have comfy beds in all of our rooms.
Can I bring my dog’s favorite toy for playgroup? You may bring your dog’s favorite toy although it must remain in his/her room, as we do not allow toys in playgroup.
Will someone be able to give my dog his medicine? We administer medication provided by your veterinarian in pill, powder or liquid form for no additional fee. We do not give any injected medications.
